Business owners in Richland County now have the convenience of paying hospitality taxes online through the County’s Business Service Center.
The new secure online payment system allows business owners to make hospitality tax payments at any time, from any location with Internet service. This new function saves business owners from traveling to the County Administration Building and waiting in line to make payments in person and allows payments to be processed faster and with greater accuracy.
“This has been a long time coming, and it’s exciting that Richland County now offers this convenient payment method to the local business community,” said Pam Davis, Director of the Business Service Center.
Hospitality tax payments can be made online at www.rcgov.us/bsc or by navigating to the Business Service Center webpage from the County’s main website, www.rcgov.us. MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover cards are all accepted, and a transaction fee of $1 plus 1.7 percent is required for online payments. Payments are due by the 20th of every month.
Hospitality taxes have been required since 2003 and are used to promote tourism in Richland County. There are nearly 800 businesses currently remitting hospitality taxes and a rate of 2 percent, except in the cities of Irmo and Eastover where the tax is 1 percent.
State Sales Tax returns for the reporting period must still be submitted by e-mail to HTax@rcgov.us in order to pay online the next month.
