(Richland PIO) – Richland County is saddened to announce the death of a detainee at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on Tuesday, July 9. A detention center nurse discovered the detainee unresponsive in his cell during a medical pass at about 6 p.m.

The detention center’s on-site medical team immediately responded and began life-saving measures to revive the detainee but were unsuccessful. The detainee did not have a cellmate.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is investigating.
