Richland County is making it easy for residents to safely recycle items that are not collected curbside by holding a special Electronic Recycling Event.
Residents can drop off electronics, scrap metal, tires and more at Brookland Baptist Church Northeast Campus, 1203 Summit Pwy. on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The event is a joint effort between Richland County Solid Waste and Recycling and the Summit Community Association. Shred With Us, eCycle Secure and CMC Recycling are sponsors of the event.
Paper-shredding also will be available and the following items will be accepted:
· Computers and computer accessories (including keyboards, monitors, printers and scanners)
· Televisions, stereos, household electronics, VCRs, DVD players, power tools, radios, fax machines, small appliances, microwave ovens, household electric items with power cords, telephones (land and cell), pagers and answering machines
· Scrap metal, including stoves, washers, dryers, bicycles, metal door frames, metal chairs, metal shelves and lawn mowers (must be free of gas and oil)
· Car tires and light truck tires or smaller, such as bike or wheel barrow tires. There is a limit of eight tires per family.
No commercial materials will be accepted. Refrigerators, air-conditioners or other units that use Freon also won’t be accepted.
