Residents can enjoy an early helping of Christmas cheer at a special holiday event that offers lots of festive fun while also benefiting the wellbeing of neglected children in Richland County.
A Christmas Story – one of America’s favorite holiday movie classics – will be performed on stage at the Town Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 5 with all proceeds supporting Richland County Court Appointed Special Advocates (RC CASA) and the CASA Foundation.
It is the mission of RC CASA – as instituted by the national organization – to recruit, train and support community volunteers who serve as Guardians ad Litem for abused and neglected children who get trapped within the Family Court system. Presently, RC CASA has more than 500 volunteers who help speak on behalf of these children in court and aim to ensure they live in safe, nurturing homes.
“We are so excited for this opportunity and humbly grateful for the partnership with the Town Theatre,” said RC CASA Director Paige Greene. “Just like A Christmas Story, the CASA story is one of hope. At CASA, our Christmas hope is that every child we serve has a safe, loving and forever family.”
This funny, family-oriented performance follows the escapades of young Ralphie who’s desperate to receive a coveted toy for Christmas in 1940s Indiana. The event kicks off with a silent auction at 7:30 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m. show time at the historic Town Theatre, located at 1012 Sumter St., Columbia. General admission is $30. Refreshments will be served at intermission and the winner of the silent auction will be announced immediately following the show.
