(Richland PIO) – With both a winter storm warning and a cold-weather advisory in effect, Richland County is altering schedules for County Government facilities in order to keep employees and residents as safe as possible.
The winter storm warning is in effect for Richland County through 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. Drivers should plan on slippery road conditions that could impact morning commutes. Black ice could pose a concern on local roads all day. In addition, a cold-weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Wind chills as low as 9 degrees are possible; prolonged exposure can lead to hypothermia.
Because of the potential for poor road and parking lot conditions, County offices will reopen for business at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Richland County Solid Waste and Recycling facilities, including the Clemson Road Drop-off Recycling Site, Lower Richland Drop-off Center and C&D Landfill, will also open at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Curbside solid waste collection scheduled for Wednesday will be delayed a day, and residents should expect delays in curbside collection through the weekend. Residents should leave their carts at curbside.
The County’s Jim Hamilton-L.B. Owens Airport terminal and fixed base operator services are closed and will reopen at 9 a.m. Wednesday, pending weather and airfield conditions.
Richland County staff will continue to monitor conditions in the area and will release more information as needed. While offices are closed, residents are encouraged to access services on the County’s website: www.richlandcountysc.gov.
