Richland County residents can follow the steps below to register to vote. Residents interested in voting ahead of November 5 can take steps to vote absentee by mail (when qualified), or vote in person during the two weeks leading up to the election at a location listed below.

When: An extension has been announced due to the impact of Hurricane Helene. Register in-person by Monday, October 14; online before midnight, October 14; and mailed registration must be postmarked by Monday, October 14, 2024

How to Vote Absentee by mail in Richland County (for qualified voters)
Absentee voting is happening now.
- Check the list of qualifications for by-mail, absentee voting.
- Call (803) 576-2240 Option 2, or visit us at The Richland County Voter Registration & Elections Office at 2020 Hampton St. Columbia, SC 29204 or send your request by mail to Richland County Voter Registration & Elections c/o Absentee Services at P.O. Box 192 Columbia, SC 29250.
You must provide your name, date of birth and last four digits of your Social Security Number. You will be mailed an application to complete and return at least one week before Election Day (November 5).
How to Vote Early in person in Richland County (for all voters)
Early voting is Monday, October 21 through Saturday, November 2, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Voters can present their photo ID and vote exactly as they would on Election Day.
One of the following photo IDs is required:
- S.C. Driver’s License
- Includes standard License and REAL ID
- S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles ID Card
- Includes standard ID card and REAL ID
- Includes SC Concealed Weapons Permit
- S.C Voter Registration Card with Photo
- Federal Military ID
- Includes all Department of Defense Photo IDs and Veterans Affairs Benefits Card
- U.S. Passport
- Includes U.S. Passport ID Card
