The Midlands Green Awards presented by Keep the Midlands Beautiful at the 2nd Annual Gala for a Greener Midlands, offered accolades for the Solid Waste Department for a job well done.
In May the County hosted Richland Recycles Day at the fair grounds. The event featured spring cleaning recycling to responsibly dispose of electronics, paint, household chemicals, cleaners, mattresses, refrigerator and stoves, old bikes, lawn mowers, cooking oil, tires, shredding paper, and so much more, but that's not all.
Indoors at the fairgrounds departments and partners participated in the educational activities geared at teaching 4th graders about recycling and conservation. The event hosted over 100 students with over 20 activities focused on conservation of our natural resources using the “3 R’s”: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Other event highlights included Jane Hiller from SONOCO Recycling winning Volunteer of the Year, and Keep the Midlands Beautiful moving their office to a new location in West Columbia.
The Midlands Green Awards were created to recognize individuals and businesses for their exceptional work in making the Midlands a cleaner, greener, more beautiful community. Keep the Midlands Beautiful wishes to recognize individuals, groups, and businesses for the wonderful example they set for all residents, and visitors, to the Midlands.
Midlands citizens are encouraged to submit nominations for individuals, groups, or businesses who they believe best live into the vision of Keep the Midlands Beautiful by working to make the Midlands a cleaner, greener, more beautiful community.
