Who to contact
Richland County's Public Information Office is the point of contact for information regarding Richland County Government, including all County departments and divisions, programs, events, news releases and initiatives.

Please note that several entities in Richland County have their own public information offices, and those offices should be contacted for information specific to that entity. General media requests
Media requests will be responded to as quickly and efficiently as possible. Every effort will be made to meet media deadlines and to ensure all information released is accurate. Submit media requests to pio@richlandcountysc.gov.

Accessing public information and records (FOIAs)
To request copies of public records and information from Richland County Government and Richland County Council, please file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

Mug shots
To request the mug shot of a detainee at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, email the detainee's first and last names and complete date of birth or the detainee's first and last names and Offender ID Number to mugshot@richlandcountysc.gov. If you do not have this information, reach out to the arresting agency to get the information before requesting a mug shot. No mug shots can be released without this information.

Filming and photography
Filming (live or taped) and photography are allowed at County-owned facilities. If a media organization wants to film, photograph or interview at County sites, please contact the Public Information Office in advance.

The news media are asked to respect the privacy of residents, businesspeople and members of the public using County services – either at the main administrative building or the various sites around the County. While on site, please do not obstruct or disturb customers or employees. Media members might be asked to take reasonable steps to ensure their activity does not prevent the public from conducting business with the County or otherwise inconvenience citizens.

Media representatives are asked to carry their company-issued ID – or S.C. Press Association or S.C. Broadcasters Association ID – while on County property, as they may be asked to present their identification by security or other County staff.

Understandably, media outlets may shoot video footage of a County facility from an offsite location – from the sidewalk, for example, as that is public property. However, as a professional courtesy, they are asked to inform the Public Information Office first.
