Richland County Council this week named an Assistant County Administrator as the Acting Administrator while a Council search committee continues to work to narrow the field of candidates to lead the day-to-day operations of County government on a permanent basis.
Dr. John Thompson was appointed to the acting role Tuesday afternoon during a special meeting and immediately assumed the duties of the position at the regular County Council meeting that followed.
Council Chair Paul Livingston, District 4, thanked Thompson for stepping into the role so soon after being promoted to an Assistant County Administrator position under former Interim County Administrator Ed Gomeau who left the County last month.
“We’re fortunate to have talented individuals we can call on to keep the County moving forward,” Livingston said. “Dr. Thompson has an extensive background in management and we look forward to his leadership in this new capacity.”
Thompson joined Richland County in 2018 to serve as the director of the Transportation Department. He will continue to offer guidance and oversight as the County transitions management of the Transportation Penny Program from a private contractor to County staff.
