You count!
That’s the message Richland County is sending residents as the 2020 Census nears. With the national count, which takes place every 10 years, just six months away, residents are encouraged to learn more about the census and to participate when it begins April 1, 2020.
To help residents understand why the census is important and to know what to expect, the County is kicking off Richland Counts! The goal of this informational campaign is to increase awareness of the census and how it benefits the community.
For counties, the census has a lasting impact. The census helps decide how federal funding is allocated and how boundaries for legislative and school districts are established.
Taking part in the census is important – and easy. Residents can respond to the census survey online, by phone or through the mail by sending back the questionnaire received. Whichever method you choose, a key point to remember is that participating in the census is safe. According to the U.S. Census Bureau:
- Responses to the 2020 Census are confidential, secure and protected by federal law
- Answers provided can only be used to produce statistics – nothing else
- Answers cannot be used against anyone in any way
