Drivers who typically use Clemson Road in Northeast Richland County are encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays from road construction later this week and part of next.
Crews will install storm drainage on the road between Old Clemson Road and Chimneyridge Drive from the morning of Friday, Feb. 14 until early afternoon, weather permitting. Asphalt placement on the same stretch of road is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, and Thursday, Feb. 20.
County Transportation officials anticipate significant traffic delays from lane closures related to the work.
The roadwork is part of a project that will widen Clemson Road from two to five lanes, from Old Clemson Road to Sparkleberry Crossing. Crews also will create shared-used paths for cyclists and pedestrians between Old Clemson Road and Chimneyridge Drive.
Transportation officials estimate construction is about 50 percent complete on the project, which began in early 2019 and is expected to be complete in early 2021.
