Yard waste collection in the unincorporated areas of Richland County will continue on its normal schedule, along with household garbage and recycling, and County drop-sites will reopen to the public this weekend.
Bulk item pickup remains on hold until further notice.
County officials had announced plans to suspend yard waste collections and close drop-off sites during the COVID-19 health crisis. Because of concerns from residents, the County and its haulers reexamined plans to modify curbside collection and access to drop-off sites.
The County’s drop-off sites will re-open with the following compliance requirements:
- Visitors entering the site must remain in their vehicles to receive instructions from County staff.
- Upon exiting their vehicles, visitors must maintain social distancing according to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The County’s drop-off centers at 10531 Garners Ferry Road (Lower Richland site), 1070 Caughman Road North (County landfill site) and 900 Clemson Road (Clemson Road site) will be open this weekend. The County will keep the sites open unless compliance issues result in public health concerns.
The Clemson Road Drop-off Site accepts only recycling materials. The site is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The site is closed Mondays and Wednesdays.
The Lower Richland Drop-off Site accepts bulk items, metal, construction debris, electronics, waste tires, latex paint and recycling materials. The schedule is modified: 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The site will be closed Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The County landfill has a drop-off site accepting the same materials as Lower Richland. The hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Until further notice:
- Bulk item curbside collections (furniture, mattresses, appliances, etc.) are temporarily suspended beginning Saturday. Residents may still bring their bulk items to either the Lower Richland Drop-off Site or the County Landfill Drop-off Site.
- No bulk item appointment requests will be accepted.
Residents are urged to avoid putting bulk items on the curb, as they will not be picked up during the time of suspended services. In addition, residents are asked to report incidents of illegal dumping. The County’s refuse officers will continue to address illegal dumping and enforcement issues.
Residents also are reminded to bag household garbage before putting it the dark green roll carts. However, recyclable items should be loose in the light green recycling roll cart.
