Richland County’s Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC) has been recognized with the Eagle Award by Freedom Behavioral Health Inc. (FBH) for its commitment and dedication to improving and expanding behavioral health programs and support services for detainees at the facility.
The Eagle Award is FBH’s highest honor, given to professionals or partners who excel at implementing behavioral health programs including mental health, addiction counseling, and suicide prevention.
ASGDC has worked closely with FBH for nearly two years to improve and expand behavioral health services, staffing and training so it can better identify and serve detainees’ wellness needs. During this time, staffing has grown from two counselors to a 12-person mental health team providing a wide range of programs and support, from intake to discharge.
The growth of ASGDC’s behavioral health program and its focus on continuous improvements has made the detention center a model facility for behavioral health, one that FBH would like to see replicated at correctional facilities nationally.
FBH, based in Franklin, Tennessee, is led by a team of experts specializing in a variety of health and wellness programming for acute populations, including specialization in correctional behavioral health services.
QUOTES
"Our team has been working intensively with our mental health partners for over a year and a half. This award is just showing the efforts that we've been putting in from the countless meetings that we've had, the conversations we have had, the work that we have laid out. It's a great honor today to receive this award. And we're excited. We're excited not only for today, but we're also excited for what the future is going to bring. We will be expanding our mental health programs to another level, ensuring that we’re meeting all the services and the needs of every detainee that comes through our care.” – Crayman Harvey, Director, Alvin S. "We're Freedom Behavioral Health. We provide counselors, psychiatrists, discharge planners, substance abuse counselors, in mostly jails across the country. And Alvin S. Glenn, we started with them about a year and a half ago, and they've taken the program from having just a couple of counselors to now over 12 counselors, and it's become our most extensive mental health program that we have across the country. And it's something that we want to eventually model some of our other jails by, because of the good work that they've done here.” – Josh Young, Director of Outreach Services, Freedom Behavioral Health Inc.
