(Richland PIO) – Richland County Government offices will resume a normal operating schedule Friday, Aug. 9. The public may conduct business in-person between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Richland County closed to the public on Thursday, Aug. 8, amid the uncertainty of Tropical Storm Debby. While the County did not experience any major disturbances, Public Works crews have been busy responding to calls for service.
“We have continued to keep a close eye on weather conditions, and our emergency and Public Works crews have worked diligently to ensure the safety of our residents, which is paramount,” said Leonardo Brown, Richland County administrator. “While the effects of Debby are becoming less of a hazard in our area, we want to stress that our teams stand ready to mitigate any lingering impact from the storm.”
Significant rainfall from Debby has increased the risk of flash flooding throughout the County. Public Works crews have responded to reports of downed trees blocking roadways but no reports of flooding, nor closures on County-maintained roads.
The S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is reporting some road closures in Richland County. Updates can be found on SCDOT’s website. The County urges residents to stay prepared, continue to exercise caution, and avoid any unnecessary travel.
“Continue to monitor local forecasts for the latest weather-related information, and please do not put yourself in harm’s way,” Brown said.
The County asks that residents call the Ombudsman’s Office at 803-929-6000 to report standing water or backup at stormwater inlets between rainfall events.
