Richland County Vector Control Director Tammy Brewer and Technician Katherine Sandel were recently honored by the SC Mosquito Control Association (SCMCA).
Brewer received the L.A. Williams Jr. Award for 2014, the highest and most prestigious award presented by the SCMCA. It recognizes someone who has made extensive or extraordinary contributions in the area of mosquito control or the SCMCA. Brewer has 25 years in the field.
Sandel received the SCMA Technician of the Year award. She was cited for enhancing the department’s service to residents, including students.
“There are very few awards to recognize individuals in mosquito control,” Brewer said. “So we are very excited and proud to have received those awards.”
With these two honors, every member of the County’s Vector Control team has now been recognized by the association. Olin Towery and Justin Hodges were named Technician of the Year in 2009 and 2010, respectively.
