The Richland County Utilities Department advises the customers of the Hopkins Water System,
in the 1000-1200 Block of Clarkson Rd. located in Richland County to vigorously boil their
water for at least one (1) full minute prior to drinking or cooking. Also, any ice made from
water which has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.
A small line break/system failure has resulted in a loss of pressure service to some of the
customers of the Hopkins Water System in the above named area. There has been no confirmed
contamination of the system. However, because potential for contamination exists, the
customers of the water system are advised to follow this advisory note, as a precautionary
measure, until otherwise notified by the Department.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) and repair
contractor are presently working with the owner of the system to correct the problem.
