Richland County’s Blue Ribbon Committee meets this week; the first time since the County learned it would receive $23.5 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for flood recovery efforts.
The funding, from HUD’s Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program, is part of $157 million awarded to South Carolina to assist with unmet housing, economic development and infrastructure needs following the devastating October 2015 floods.
Richland County established the Blue Ribbon Committee, representing neighborhoods, non-profits, business community, civic and faith-based groups, elected officials and other organizations, to review flood recovery projects and make recommendations to County Council to help guide how best to use any flood relief funds received.
The committee will meet 2 p.m. Thursday at the Township Auditorium, 1703 Taylor St. Attendees should enter through the doors on the Henderson Street side of the building.
