The Richland Soil and Water Conservation District celebrated Arbor Day with Webber and Horrell Hill Elementary Schools on Friday, December 5th.
Thirty-six student entries and three teachers have earned recognition and cash prizes in the 2014 Richland County Arbor Day Youth Contests sponsored by the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District.
The Richland Soil and Water Conservation District has awarded Conservation Education Mini-Grants to five Richland County schools. These Mini-Grants will provide up to $250.00 to support schoolyard conservation projects and provide environmental education opportunities for local students.
A Soil Health Field Day will be held at Carter Farms in Eastover, SC on Tuesday, October 7, from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm. This workshop for agricultural producers and natural resource professionals will include first-year results from a Conservation Innovation Grant focusing on soil health, a primer in the use of biological soil tests to evaluate soil health and fertility, and demonstrations of how no-till and cover cropping affect production.
