A Soil Health Field Day will be held at Carter Farms in Eastover, SC on Tuesday, October 7, from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm. This workshop for agricultural producers and natural resource professionals will include first-year results from a Conservation Innovation Grant focusing on soil health, a primer in the use of biological soil tests to evaluate soil health and fertility, and demonstrations of how no-till and cover cropping affect production. The Richland Soil and Water Conservation Districts will accept applications for Mini-Grants (up to $250) to support youth conservation projects until October 15, 2014.
Celebrate Arbor Day by participating in the Richland County Arbor Day Youth Contests sponsored by the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District! Students in grades preK-12 are invited to create entries in the forms of writing, videos, posters, or bulletin boards on the theme "If Trees Could Talk." Entries are due by October 31, 2014. SC Arbor Day will be observed on Friday, December 5, 2014.
