Richland County Treasurer David Adams Earns Statewide Honor
(Richland PIO) – Richland County Treasurer David Adams has earned the S.C. Association of Auditors, Treasurers and Tax Collectors’ (SCATT) highest honor.
Adams was presented the L.H. “Sonny” Siau Award of Excellence at the organization’s annual conference Feb. 10. The award recognizes Adams’ dedication “to the association and the people of the State of South Carolina as a tireless proponent of fair property taxation … personifying Sonny’s passion for excellence in public service.”
Anderson County Treasurer Jason Phillips, who presented the award, cited Adams’ work to strengthen the education of SCATT members, his past leadership of the organization as vice president and president, and his role in passing several pieces of significant legislation to help South Carolina residents.
Upon receiving the honor, Adams said: “I’m just so proud that, working with so many wonderful public servants in my office and around South Carolina, we’ve gotten some great things done that have helped people and will help them for years to come.”
Adams joined SCATT after taking office as County treasurer in 2003. He has held various leadership roles within the organization, serving as chair of the legislative committee for several years. He was also president from 2015 to 2016 and vice president from 2013 to 2014. During his time as SCATT’s legislative committee chair, Adams worked with a group to recodify the state’s property tax laws (Title 12 of the S.C. Code of Laws), which he cites as one of the highest accomplishments of his tenure.
The award is named in honor of Siau, a longtime Georgetown County auditor and World War II veteran known for his dedication to SCATT.
