(Columbia, SC) The Richland County Treasurer’s Office in conjunction with the Richland County Information Technology Department created the QR Codes that Auditor Paul Brawley added to tax bills in October of 2013. This month, the Treasurer’s Office is proud to announce over $1 Million has been paid using this method.
October 2013 to September 2014 $ 253,546.83
October 2014 to September 2015 $ 410,214.62
October 2015 to April 21, 2016 $ 336,708.59
$ 1,000,470.04
“Our IT staff was absolutely top notch in creating this in a short time and our taxpayers are benefitting from their excellent work,” Adams said.
“New technology helps us give our citizens more options to choose from when paying their taxes,” Adams continued. “We have been surprised and pleased by the explosive growth of people taking advantage of these QR Codes. It makes it easier for them to pay their bills which makes it more efficient for Richland County to meet our obligations.”
A Quick Response barcode, commonly known as a QR Code, allows a taxpayer using a mobile device’s QR reader to snap or scan the code printed on the tax statement. When the code is scanned, the user is directed to the Treasurer’s online bill payment page where taxes can be paid with a credit card or electronic check.
